Ginger & Motion Sickness
As an adventurous person who loves traveling and road trips, I have found it super difficult to continue doing what I love because over the last few years I’ve started to experience major motion sickness. For example, last summer I was traveling all over the state of Washington, taking in the most breathtaking views when I began feeling sick. Unfortunately, all I could do was lay in my bed the rest of the evening instead of enjoying my travels. As a result, I was discouraged from taking more trips.
I didn’t want to continue missing out on traveling just to prevent feeling sick, so I decided to figure out how I could be more prepared for those moments. My mom always told me to have ginger to help me feel better, but I didn’t believe it would actually work. I experimented during my last trip, which was 10 hours on a bus ride to Florida. I began eating ginger mints from Trader Joes, and I found that it really helped me to overcome the nausea that’s associated with motion sickness. So how does ginger relieve symptoms?
The main bioactive components in ginger are gingerol and shogaol. These compounds are anti-inflammatory and are great at increasing digestion and regulating blood pressure. The digestive and blood sugar support are thought to be the reasons why ginger combats the feeling of nausea. That is why ginger is so incredible for motion sickness.
Now in order to be prepared for travel, I pack the Trader Joe's ginger mints, minty gum (because that also helps nausea), and detox tea from 50Cups Tea. The detox tea has ginger, which helps to relieve my symptoms. Not only is it good for road trips, it also tastes incredible due to its lemony ginger flavor. The detox tea is great either warm or cold. For me, I love to drink it iced during my summer trips. I no longer feel as stressed over the possibility of getting motion sick, because I know I have natural medicine from ginger with me. If you experience motion sickness, you should try ginger and our detox tea as well!
